Solutions for Physical, Occupational and Speech-Language Therapy Positions
Case Study No. 1: Flexibility and Creativity in Service
CLIENT PROFILE
Type of facility: Hospital
Area of specialty: Rehab management
Size: 500 employees nationwide
Market: Texas
PROBLEM
One of a client’s physical therapists at a rural-area client facility was looking to take some time off. Initially, TheraStaff was having difficulties trying to find a replacement from its network of candidates, as the hospital is in a small town roughly three hours from any major city.
SOLUTION
TheraStaff broadened its search by moving outside its own candidate network. A staffing manager at TheraStaff contacted temp staffing agencies as well as traveling therapist services to find a candidate who’d be willing to take a short assignment in the rural area. After a lot of searching, TheraStaff found a physical therapist willing to do a two-week assignment in this small town, and the staffing manager interviewed and screened the therapist to determine if she was a good fit for the assignment.
RESULTS
The physical therapist proved to be a great match and was transitioned seamlessly to the client facility. The end result was a win for everyone, as the therapist covering the assignment had relatives nearby to visit while on assignment, and the client’s physical therapist was able to take the time off she needed. TheraStaff’s 24/7 availability to address any questions or concerns the client or candidate had during the transition was another key element of success in this case.
Case Study No. 2: Ensuring Operations Stay Efficient
CLIENT PROFILE
Type of facility: Private clinic
Area of specialty: Outpatient orthopedic
Size: Two-person practice
Market: Southern California
PROBLEM
This small outpatient clinic was down one physical therapy assistant and the ability to treat their patients in a timely and efficient manner was severely impacted. When a small clinic such as this client’s facility has to reschedule or cause patients to wait for an extended period of time for treatment, it adversely affects reputation and doctors’ willingness to refer patients, disrupting flow of income.
SOLUTION
A senior staffing manager at TheraStaff recognized the situation and began working to find a replacement. The only physical therapy assistant available in the area wasn’t trained in an outpatient orthopedic setting. TheraStaff contacted a few of its physical therapy assistants already on assignment, and with the permission of the assistants and the facilities they were assigned to, TheraStaff reshuffled their assignments in hopes it would make a qualified therapy assistant available for the orthopedic clinic.
RESULTS
One of the core strengths of TheraStaff’s staffing services is the ability to respond to both the demands of healthcare facility clients as well as its therapists at the drop of a hat and with ingenuity. The result: The senior staffing manager at TheraStaff was able to move enough schedules around so that a physical therapy assistant trained in orthopedics became available to work the clinic in need. The client’s facility was able to carry out its current patient appointment schedule without a hitch and was very happy with TheraStaff’s creativity.
