Success Through TheraStaff’s Rehabilitation Staffing Services

OUT-OF-STATE ASSIGNMENT: A Little Effort Goes a Long Way

A speech pathologist working full time with TheraStaff in Indiana was interested in visiting Texas for three months. She was having difficulty finding a medical facility that was interested in hiring her for only 12 weeks and she approached TheraStaff to help. Although TheraStaff is currently serving the state of Texas, at the time, the agency had never staffed for that region. A therapy staffing manager at TheraStaff examined the company’s national contracts to see what she could do.

The staffing manager researched all possible healthcare facilities within a reasonable commuting distance of where the therapist was going to stay and began contacting them. It was a tricky situation, as those medical facilities that could use her services only needed her sporadically, not for an extended period of time. The therapy staffing manager also came across medical facilities that didn’t have an interest in working with a staffing agency.

Finally, the staffing manager’s perseverance paid off. She found a medical facility that was interested in working with the therapist for the 12 weeks she was available, but it would take some negotiation on TheraStaff’s part on the terms of her assignment. A specific agreement for guaranteed work needed to be in place in order to secure her position with this particular healthcare facility.

TheraStaff created a guarantee that covered eight hours per day, five days per week for the entire three months. The candidate worked her term successfully and everyone involved was very happy. The therapist has since referred several new therapists to TheraStaff, assisting in the growth the business.

Recently, the speech-language pathologist took a regular, full-time position as a rehab manager and has helped TheraStaff contract with her facility – even though this particular facility has turned down temp healthcare staffing agencies many times in the past and has a unwritten policy that it doesn’t partner with staffers. In the end, it resulted in a new client for TheraStaff.

FORGING A CAREER PATH: Finding the Right Fit

TheraStaff was contacted by a young occupational therapist who had spent the past couple of years working on a variety of travel assignments to garner a wide range of experience. Her most recent assignment landed her in San Diego, Calif., for almost three months.

The OT said she had fallen in love with San Diego and was hoping TheraStaff could find her a more permanent position. Most of her experience had been in skilled nursing facilities, but she had interned in a setting that treated children at one point.

In conversations with the occupational therapist, it was obvious that she would enjoy the opportunity to work with children again. TheraStaff suggested she work in a school setting and she jumped at the idea but was nervous due to her limited experience.

Through TheraStaff’s relationships in the public school community, one of its healthcare staffing managers was able to arrange a meeting for her with the special education director for a large school district. The two hit it off and a regular, full-time employment opportunity presented itself.

TheraStaff’s in-depth knowledge of the rehabilitation industry then offered many resources to the therapist. The therapy staffing agency provided facility-specific orientation for the special education department of the school and negotiation of terms for the position, incorporating on-the-job training and a working relationship with another special education occupational therapist for support and guidance. The therapist began her new career and ultimately became very skilled within her role.

A FRESH START: Switching Gears for Work-Life Balance

A director of rehab at an outpatient clinic called TheraStaff to say she was tired of the pressure and responsibility that went with her role. She also wanted to try working at a skilled nursing facility because she had been working in outpatient settings for 10 years.

The therapist’s main concern was finding a work setting where she didn’t have to work more than eight hours each day or have to bring her work home with her. After many years of this type of work, she was ready for a change. She approached TheraStaff so she could focus on getting her personal life back and experience the benefits of flexibility in her career.

She asked if TheraStaff could keep her busy while she explored new healthcare career options. She and a staffing manager at TheraStaff spent some time getting to know each other and the therapist was assured she would have as much work as needed through TheraStaff’s therapy staffing agency.

Even though the candidate wanted to experience different types of facilities, she was hesitant because she didn’t have a lot of experience outside of outpatient settings. The staffing manager arranged for her to work and be trained at several different client medical facilities over the span of a few weeks to give her some variety.

After the candidate was able to experience this, she was confident to move forward with her desire to work in a skilled nursing facility. Working with TheraStaff allowed her to pursue her professional goals and since then, she has taken several assignments in diverse skilled nursing facilities.
